Retired Members Eligibility

ELIGIBILITY FOR RETIREES

The Fund provides certain benefits to eligible “Retirees.” Retirees are people who retired from a position in Covered Employment, for whom contributions are made to the Fund by the UCS.

The Fund also provides benefits to eligible “Dependents.” Dependents are Participants’ and Retirees’ spouses and unmarried children up to age 26.

Please note that the Plan of benefits that the Fund provides for Participants and their Dependents is different from the Plan of benefits that the Fund provides for Retirees and their Dependents. Please see the relevant portions of this SPD below for more information.

WHEN DOES COVERAGE BEGIN?

When a Participant retires from a position in Covered Employment, the Participant’s coverage under the Fund transitions to Retiree coverage on the first of the month following the date on which the Participant retires and the Participant continues to be eligible to have contributions to the Fund provided by the UCS.

WHEN DOES COVERAGE END?

Coverage for Retirees and their Dependents ends upon the death of the Retiree, or when the Retiree is no longer eligible to have contributions to the Fund provided by UCS. Coverage for Dependents ends when the applicable Participant or Retiree’s coverage ends, or when the Dependent is no longer an eligible Dependent, as defined in the Summary Plan Discription.
